Student Lab WorkBefore you register for classes, you should talk with one of the Academic Advisors to make sure you select the appropriate classes for you situation, depending on the results of your Compass Placement Test and degree objectives. All “new” students have an “advising hold”, until the Compass Placement Test is completed and you meet with an advisor. When you see an advisor, ask that this hold be released so that you may register.  Sometimes holds are utilized to bring students into the Advising office to ensure you are on the right track with your degree requirements.

Review the Programs of Study available at NMSU Grants to see which academic areas you may want to pursue and what the specific course requirements are for each degree or certificate.

Review the current Schedule of Classes (click on the Student tab after logging into myNMSU) to see the dates and times for the classes you’re interested in taking.

Check the Academic Schedule to make sure you’re aware of the key dates, especially the dates when you can register based on your status as a freshman,  transfer student, or re-admission. You should also make sure you’re aware of the last day to register.

Make sure you’re aware of what your tuition costs and fees will be and what your financial obligations are when you register.

When you’re ready to register for classes:

  1. Login to
  2. Click on the Student and Financial Aid tab.
  3. Click on Registration.
  4. Click on Look Up Classes.
  5. Select the Term.
  6. Click Submit.
  7. On the Look Up Classes page, select any known features of the class, if any.
  8. Click Class Search.
  9. Select the checkbox next to any classes you would like to register for.
  10. Click Register.
  11. If a class is full or you need instructor permission, email the instructor and request permission to register. In the instructor approves, he/she must add your Aggie ID to the class. Then you should be able to register for the class.

To check your registration status:

  1. Login to
  2. Click on the Student and Financial Aid tab.
  3. Click on Registration.
  4. Click on Registration Status.

If you encounter any problems or questions as you register, contact an Academic Advisor. Once you’ve completed the registration process, it’s time to get ready for classes!
