Description/Mission:
Literacy Volunteers provides free basic Reading and ESL (English as a Second Language) tutoring to
adults in Cibola County. They also provide family literacy support, pre-GED and GED support services.
Student Service Learning Opportunities:
Service Learners can receive training to tutor ESL, reading, and/or math literacy to adults in the area.
There is also an opportunity to do tutoring/literacy projects with young children whose parents are
receiving ESL tutoring on Mondays from 5pm to 8pm. (this would not require the extensive training
that adult tutoring would require.)
Orientation/Training Schedule:
The entire training is 18 hours total. It is flexible as to how these hours are distributed- Barbara
is willing to adapt to Student Learner's schedules.
Number of Service Learning Students Needed: Open
Hours of Operation When Students are Needed: Varies
Minimum Hour Commitment Required: Depends on Project
